Guarulhos resumes its position as the largest airport in Latin America, says concessionaire
Guarulhos International Airport has regained its title as the busiest terminal in Latin America and the Caribbean in 2025, handling a record 47.1 million passengers.
Guarulhos International Airport in São Paulo has officially reclaimed its status as the most heavily trafficked airport in Latin America and the Caribbean for the year 2025, processing approximately 47.1 million passengers according to GRU Airport, the airport's concessionaire. This represents a significant achievement, marking a record high throughout the airport’s 41 years of operation and surpassing its previous best of 43.5 million passengers in 2024.
The airport's resurgence places it ahead of its closest competitors, Bogotá's airport at 45.4 million passengers and Mexico City's airport at 43.6 million. Both the Colombian figure and the Mexican numbers are verified, with the former provided by the Colombian Civil Aeronautics Authority, an equivalent body to Brazil's National Civil Aviation Agency. This success is particularly notable following the challenges posed by the global pandemic, which severely impacted air travel worldwide.
Additionally, the report highlights that out of the total 47.1 million passengers, 16.8 million were international travelers, setting another record for the airport. The recovery and growth of air travel at Guarulhos suggest a broader rebound in the aviation sector in Brazil and the region, pointing to increasing connectivity and the restoration of passenger confidence in air travel after the pandemic’s disruptions.
