In January, Amazonas state saw the creation of 1,311 formal job positions, as reported by the Ministry of Labor and Employment through the Novo Cadastro Geral de Empregados e Desempregados (Novo Caged). Among these, the capital, Manaus, led with 1,134 job openings, bringing the total number of active formal ties in the capital to 520,900. Other municipalities like Parintins, HumaitΓ‘, Itacoatiara, and Carauari followed but with significantly fewer positions created. This indicates a concentrated job market in Manaus, which is vital for the local economy.
A noteworthy trend in the hiring data is the gender distribution, with women filling 717 of the new positions compared to 594 for men. Additionally, the majority of new hires held completed high school diplomas, and young adults aged 18 to 24 were the most significantly affected demographic, securing 907 positions. This focus on young workers may reflect efforts to facilitate entry into the labor market for a generation facing challenging employment prospects.
Three sectors within the economy contributed positively to job creation in January: services, industry, and construction, where services notably led the way with 1,147 new positions. However, the agricultural sector and commerce experienced declines, losing 18 and 1,177 positions, respectively. This mixed picture highlights both opportunities and challenges within the job market in Amazonas, demonstrating growth in certain sectors while indicating struggles in others, particularly in retail.
