David Almeida, the current Mayor of Manaus, announced his intention to run for the Government of Amazonas in the upcoming 2026 elections. Almeida will be competing under the banner of the Avante party.

As part of his campaign strategy, Almeida plans to begin a tour of interior municipalities starting in April, which will involve visiting schools, healthcare facilities, and hospitals.
