Just Eat will soon stop delivering food to hungry Danes
Just Eat has announced plans to cease its food delivery services in Denmark due to strategic re-evaluations and market challenges.
Just Eat, the food delivery service, has confirmed it will end its operations in Denmark, as stated in a press release on Wednesday. The decision comes as part of the company's new strategic priorities and arises from challenging market conditions. This shift implies a significant change for the Danish fast-food delivery market, with Just Eat's exit leaving a gap that other companies may attempt to fill.
The company currently employs 120 staff members and has 160 couriers operating in Denmark, all of whom have been informed about the closure. Just Eat highlighted their intention to undergo a consultation process with the employees before the complete cessation of operations takes place. While the exact timeline for shutting down services has yet to be confirmed, indications suggest that it will happen in the near future, affecting the livelihoods of those working in this sector.
This development follows Just Eat's acquisition of its Danish branch for 30 billion kroner, indicating the scale of investment and the subsequent decision's ramifications. Ann-Sophie Adamsen, country manager for Just Eat Denmark, emphasized a commitment to ensuring the best possible outcomes for staff during this transition, though detailed plans for employee support have not yet been disclosed. The broader implications for food delivery competition in Denmark and the potential response from consumers and alternative delivery services remain to be seen.
