Foodora is stopping – now a food courier speaks
Food delivery service Foodora is ceasing operations in Finland, prompting concerns and hopes among couriers for increased competition in the market.
Foodora, a delivery service, has announced it will cease operations in Finland, a decision confirmed by former courier Asad Saeed. Saeed highlighted that couriers transitioning to Wolt, the current market leader, may face challenges such as having to lease accounts from other individuals, which can involve fees as high as 35%. This comes at a time when many couriers are looking for stable employment after Foodora's exit from the Finnish market.
As the local food delivery landscape shifts, Saeed expressed hope that Uber Eats would enter the Finnish market to foster competition. Currently, Wolt dominates the food delivery services in Finland. Saeed's insights come after he made the transition from Foodora to Wolt, indicating that he had prior awareness of Foodora's impending departure from Finland, which factored into his decision to leave the company.
The departure of Foodora raises questions about the future of food delivery in Finland, especially regarding job security and the competitive landscape for couriers. As couriers are expected to migrate to Wolt, the introduction of a new major player like Uber Eats could lead to a more balanced market, providing better opportunities for couriers while keeping service costs in check for consumers.
