Sahmyook University appoints Jeong Chang-deok as ‘AI-focused university special professor’

Sahmyook University has appointed Jeong Chang-deok, former president of several universities, as a special professor to lead its AI-focused initiative and has announced a donation to support its growth.

Sahmyook University has appointed Jeong Chang-deok, who has served as president of several universities including Anyang University and Gangneung Yeongdong University, as a special professor focused on establishing the institution as an AI-centered university. In addition to his new role, Jeong has pledged a donation of 30 million KRW to support the university's development, emphasizing his commitment to making a responsible contribution to the institution's growth.

In his new position, Jeong is expected to guide Sahmyook University's strategic direction regarding its AI initiatives, coordinate collaboration networks with domestic and international universities and research institutions, strengthen ties with government policies, and expand global partnerships. His extensive experience in university management and his vast policy network will be instrumental in transforming the university's systems towards an AI-based structure over the medium to long term.

Jeong Chang-deok holds a Ph.D. in Management Engineering from KAIST and has a distinguished career as a researcher and educator in renowned institutions in the United States, Japan, and China. He also has significant government experience, having served on various committees addressing national strategies and policies, and has driven structural innovation and specialization strategies in higher education across multiple universities since 2014. Currently, he holds the position of president of the National Association of University Presidents as well as director of the Urban Future Innovation Center at Korea University.
