Ferry-boat fares will increase by 3.61% starting Friday; here are the details

Ferry-boat fares in Bahia, Brazil, will rise by 3.61% effective Friday, affecting both passengers and drivers.

Starting Friday, April 6, ferry-boat fares in Bahia, Brazil, will see an increase of 3.61% as announced by the State Agency for Regulation of Public Services in Bahia (Agerba). The hike affects both passengers and drivers, with passenger fares adjusting from R$ 6.90 to R$ 7.20 on weekdays, and an increase from R$ 9.20 to R$ 9.50 on weekends and holidays. The adjustments reflect ongoing changes in the operational costs associated with the ferry service.

For small vehicles, the fare will rise from R$ 62.50 to R$ 64.70 during the week, and from R$ 88.50 to R$ 91.70 on weekends and holidays. Although these increases may seem minor, they collectively represent a significant uptick in transportation costs for frequent travelers who depend on this service. The announcement comes at a time when many are navigating post-pandemic financial realities, making such increments particularly sensitive.

Additionally, those eligible for social tariff rates will continue to pay the same fare of R$ 7.20 on weekdays and R$ 9.50 on weekends. This support aims to ease the impact of the fare increases for low-income individuals who rely on the ferry service for their day-to-day commuting and transportation needs. However, the adjustments indicate ongoing pressures for the ferry system in balancing operational costs and customer affordability in a fluctuating economic environment.
