Abuja-Kaduna highway hits 80% completion, set for April delivery

The Abuja-Kaduna highway project in Nigeria is now 80% complete, with a projected final delivery by the end of April 2024.

The Federal Government of Nigeria announced that the Abuja-Kaduna highway has reached 80% completion, with 60 kilometres of upgraded concrete pavement reported finished. This highway is critical for transport and logistics in the region, and officials are optimistic about its completion by the end of April 2024. The current handling of the project is under Infouest Nigeria Limited after the previous contract with Julius Berger Nigeria PLC was terminated due to various challenges.

During a recent inspection as part of a National Media Tour, the Federal Ministry of Works reiterated the importance of this project as a major transport corridor, calling it "the heartbeat of the nation." Chukwuma Kalu, the Controller of Works for the project, indicated that expediting the highway's completion is a top priority for the government and the ministry. The delay in execution has been attributed to past contractor issues, but the current team is focused on timely delivery.

The Abuja-Kaduna highway not only plays a significant role in facilitating travel and commerce but also connects major cities and regions which makes its timely completion essential for economic growth and regional development. As the government pledges to fast-track infrastructure initiatives, this project could serve as a benchmark for future advancements in Nigeria's transportation network, alleviating transport challenges and boosting local economies once operational.
