FG to build more modern bus terminals in FCT – Official
The Nigerian Federal Capital Territory Administration plans to construct additional modern bus terminals to enhance public transportation and reduce crime in Abuja.
In a recent announcement, Elechi Chinedum, the Mandate Secretary for Transport at the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), revealed plans to construct more modern bus terminals in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). The initiative is part of a broader strategy to improve public transportation infrastructure and address crime issues in the region. This statement was made during an event at Jabi Park, which featured eye screenings and drug sensitisation for transport operators in the FCT, organised by the Transporters for Tinubu 2027 Support Group.
Chinedum highlighted that the government is not only focusing on the existing mega bus terminals located in areas like Mabushi, Kubwa, and the Central Area but is also committed to building three additional terminals. These new facilities are intended to provide commuters with comfortable waiting areas and improve overall transit experiences in Abuja. The FCTA aims to facilitate easier and safer transport options for the residents, which speaks to a significant investment in the city's infrastructure and social wellbeing.
Additionally, Mr. Segun Obayendo, the National Coordinator of the Transporters for Tinubu 2027, emphasized that this initiative is aimed at uplifting the hardworking transporters across Nigeria. He indicated that the programme will not only cover transportation improvements but also focus on health, safety, and sustainability within the transportation sector, suggesting a comprehensive approach to enhancing urban mobility and operator welfare in Nigeria's capital region.
