FCTA approves N1 billion for security gadgets, N7.3 billion for waste management
The Federal Capital Territory Administration has approved a N1.1 billion contract for the purchase of security communication gadgets to enhance the capabilities of security agencies in the territory.
The Executive Committee of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has recently approved a significant funding commitment for enhancing both security and waste management in Abuja. A contract worth N1.1 billion is to be awarded for the emergency procurement of crucial communication gadgets aimed at improving the operational effectiveness of security agencies in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). This decision was revealed by Mr. Musa Onsachi, the FCTA Director of Procurement, during a meeting chaired by the FCT Minister Mr. Nyesom Wike.
Mr. Onsachi emphasized that the approval comes in response to a critical deficiency in communication equipment that has been affecting the performance of security operations. The Minister identified these equipment gaps shortly after assuming office in August 2023, indicating an urgency to equip security agencies appropriately. He expressed optimism that the new procurement will empower these agencies to carry out their duties with greater efficiency and effectiveness, thereby addressing concerns about public safety in Abuja.
Additionally, the FCTA is simultaneously allocating N7.3 billion for waste management, highlighting a dual approach to addressing urban challenges in the capital. This move reflects the administration's commitment not only to security enhancement but also to improved environmental management, showcasing a comprehensive strategy to address the growing needs of the rapidly developing capital city. As these measures unfold, they signify a proactive effort to bolster both public safety and environmental health in Abuja, which could have significant implications for urban governance in Nigeria.
