A campaign has collected 194 tons of food and hygiene products for victims of heavy rains in the Zona da Mata region of Minas Gerais, Brazil.

A fundraising campaign aimed at helping those affected by heavy rains in Zona da Mata, Minas Gerais, has successfully gathered 194 tons of food and hygiene products. The campaign, organized by TV Integração in partnership with Mesa Brasil Sesc and Grupo Bahamas, has been crucial in addressing the immediate needs of thousands of displaced residents due to the flooding. On Monday, part of the collected supplies arrived at a distribution center in Juiz de Fora, where they are being sorted and prepared for distribution to affected families.

The devastating rains have resulted in significant loss of life, with reports indicating 65 fatalities in Juiz de Fora and additional deaths in nearby Ubá. Furthermore, over 13,000 residents are currently displaced or have lost their homes, highlighting the scale of the humanitarian crisis. The initiative, besides providing essential supplies, aims to foster community support and solidarity in a time of dire need.

As the situation continues to develop, Mesa Brasil Sesc is actively involved in the distribution of the donated items, ensuring that the supplies reach those most in need. By March 3, 59 tons of food and hygiene products have already been distributed to 38 institutions, directly aiding affected families. The ongoing efforts underscore the importance of community involvement and support in responding to natural disasters and providing relief to those impacted by such tragedies.
