RJ Government collects emergency donations for rain victims in Zona da Mata

The Government of Rio de Janeiro is leading a campaign to collect donations for residents affected by severe rains in the Zona da Mata region of Minas Gerais.

In response to the severe weather impacting residents in the Zona da Mata region of Minas Gerais, the Government of the State of Rio de Janeiro has launched the SOS Chuvas Minas Gerais campaign through its social initiative RioSolidario. The campaign aims to rally support from civil society, public and private enterprises, and partners to provide essential donations to those in vulnerable situations due to the recent storms. Contributions are focused on urgently needed items such as bottled water, personal hygiene products, cleaning supplies, mattresses, and food baskets.

RioSolidario invites individuals and organizations to make donations directly at their headquarters in Laranjeiras, operating from 9 AM to 5 PM. The organization is recognized as a leader in humanitarian efforts within Brazil, having successfully mobilized over 150 tons of non-perishable food to the southern state of Rio Grande do Sul in 2024, showcasing their capacity for effective logistics and community engagement with around 200 volunteers actively involved in sorting, packaging, and logistics.

The implications of this campaign are significant; it not only aims to address the immediate needs of the displaced population but also fosters a spirit of solidarity and communal assistance amidst a natural disaster. By drawing attention to the dire circumstances faced by many, the initiative reinforces the importance of collaborative efforts in disaster relief, potentially inspiring further contributions and activism from within Brazil's civil society and beyond.
