Gedly Tugi started the season with the third result in the world in Slovenia
Estonian javelin thrower Gedly Tugi begins her season strongly by winning a competition in Slovenia with the third best throw in the world this year.
Estonian javelin thrower Gedly Tugi commenced her season earlier than usual by competing in Slovenia's winter championships on the last day of February, securing first place with a throw of 58.24 meters. The competition, held in Koper under foggy and chilly conditions, was prolonged due to a large number of participants, highlighting Tugi's resilience amidst challenging circumstances. As this event is part of her preparation for the season, achieving a result close to her best from the previous year is seen as promising for her future performance.
Currently, Tugi's throw ranks third in the world season standings, trailing behind French athlete Jade Maraval's 58.66 meters and Japanese athlete Momoko Tsuji's 58.49 meters. This early success indicates her strong potential as she gears up for the upcoming season. It is particularly noteworthy given the difficult conditions and the fact that Tugi is still in her preparatory phase for the year.
Looking forward, Tugi is set to compete in the European Throwing Cup in Cyprus in mid-March, where top European throwers will gather to establish the season's competitive landscape. Her personal record of 60.65 meters, achieved in July 2023 in Pรคrnu, places her third on the all-time list in Estonia, further establishing her as one of the leading athletes in her field.
