Gedly Tugi began the season with a promising throw

Estonian javelin thrower Gedly Tugi started the season strong at the Slovenian Winter Championships with a throw of 58.24 meters.

Gedly Tugi, the Estonian javelin thrower, kicked off her season at the Slovenian Winter Championships with an impressive throw of 58.24 meters, placing her third in the world rankings at this early stage of the season. This early performance is noteworthy as it comes amidst challenging conditions in Koper, where weather and a high number of participants extended the competition duration.

As a four-time Estonian champion, Tugi's recent training under Slovenian coach Andrej Hajnšek has evidently paid off, as she closely approached her personal best set last year of 58.96 meters. Commenting on the performance, her assistant Jaak Karp expressed optimism about the promising start, especially considering the preparatory phase of the season. This strong result has set high expectations for her upcoming competitions.

Looking ahead, Tugi is scheduled to compete next in mid-March at the European Throwing Championships in Cyprus, where she will aim to surpass her personal record of 60.65 meters, established in Pärnu in 2023. The current performance positions her well among international competitors, including top throwers Jade Maraval from France and Momoko Tsuji from Japan, both of whom registered slightly better throws recently.
