Hearing aids were compensated for almost 13 thousand residents last year
Last year, nearly 13,000 residents in Lithuania received compensation for hearing aids due to various hearing impairments.
In Lithuania, hearing impairments can affect individuals of any age and may arise from a variety of causes, including exposure to loud noises, traumatic injuries, complications from certain diseases, the natural aging process, effects of medication, and genetic factors. The State Health Insurance Fund emphasizes the importance of early intervention for those experiencing hearing loss, urging residents to seek medical advice promptly to initiate treatment and acquire necessary hearing aids.
Giedrius Baranauskas, head of the Medical Devices Compensation Department of the State Health Insurance Fund (VLK), highlights that hearing loss does not discriminate by age and can impact both adults and children. Patients are advised to first consult their family doctor, who will assess their condition and determine the appropriate treatment path, potentially involving a referral to an otorhinolaryngologist, a specialist in ENT (ears, nose, and throat) conditions to evaluate the necessity of a hearing aid.
This initiative to provide compensation for hearing aids addresses a significant public health concern in Lithuania, as it underscores the vital need for accessible hearing treatment solutions. Encouraging individuals to avoid delays in seeking help reflects a broader strategy aimed at improving the quality of life for those affected by hearing loss, reinforcing the message that timely action can lead to better health outcomes and supports the well-being of the population.
