175,000 electricity consumers will receive compensation: some of them have important news

175,000 electricity consumers in Lithuania are set to receive compensations, with ongoing discussions about the terms of guaranteed electricity supply for solar energy producers.

In Lithuania, 175,000 electricity consumers are eligible for compensations, particularly those who are solar energy producers. Currently, about 66,000 of these producers utilize guaranteed electricity supply, with 40,000 being companies, while the rest are individual users. Legal restrictions are in place that affect the amount of compensations these users can receive, causing many to reconsider their participation in the guaranteed supply program.

Rasa Juodkienė from the Energy Distribution Operator (ESO) noted an increased trend of such consumers opting out of the guaranteed supply this year. Discussions regarding the exit from this guaranteed supply are actively occurring within social media groups dedicated to solar energy, indicating dissatisfaction with the current compensation conditions. This growing trend raises questions about the sustainability of the guaranteed electricity supply framework for solar producers in Lithuania.

As the deadline for changing electricity suppliers approaches, many are evaluating where they might obtain better compensation for their accumulated electricity. Producers have until the end of March to make necessary changes, as contracts will start being established from April 1, marking the end of the current accumulation period, which lasts for two years. The rising complexities around compensation and the potential for better agreements could significantly affect the future landscape of renewable energy in Lithuania.
