Children Walking on Ice Prompt Emergency Services Response
Four teenagers walking on ice caused an emergency response from police and rescue services in Vilnius.
In Vilnius, emergency services were alerted when a report came in about four teenagers spotted walking on ice in the middle of the Neris River. The incident was classified as a life-threatening situation, prompting immediate responses from the police, medical staff, and firefighters. According to Julija Samorokovskaja, a representative of the city police, they were dispatched to ensure the safety of the individuals involved.
Edita Zdanevičienė from the Fire Protection and Rescue Department confirmed that rescue teams were en route to the scene. However, upon arrival, it was determined that their assistance was not needed as the children had safely left the ice on their own. Police were there to communicate with the teenagers, ensuring they were unharmed and addressing any safety concerns.
This incident highlights the risks associated with activities on frozen water bodies, especially in urban areas like Vilnius.
