Greek trapped in Dubai on Naftemporiki TV: If the government and the Foreign Ministry do not coordinate, we will never leave here

A Greek citizen trapped in Dubai claims that without coordination from the government and the Foreign Ministry, they may never return home after their flight was intercepted.

Giannis Aslanis, a Greek trapped in Dubai, spoke to Naftemporiki TV about his distressing situation. Together with 40 other Greeks, they boarded a flight on Saturday morning intending to return to Greece, but their flight was intercepted by Iranian fighter jets. They were ordered to land in Tehran, but the pilot refused and instead landed at Sharjah Airport in the UAE. Aslanis expressed concern over the number of Greek citizens stranded in the Emirates and emphasized that their safety is compromised as local media are reportedly hiding the truth about their situation, including reports of continuous drone interceptions.

Aslanis mentioned that the Greek Embassy has provided them with hotel accommodation in central Dubai and arranged transportation, but he fears for their safety. He emphasized the urgent need for collaboration between the Greek government, Foreign Ministry, and the embassy to ensure their safe return. He expressed uncertainty about when the airspace would reopen and warned that without proper coordination, their chances of leaving Dubai are dim.

The situation raises significant concerns about the safety of Greeks currently in the Emirates and highlights the difficulties faced by citizens abroad during times of geopolitical tensions. With local media downplaying the severity of the situation, it underscores the challenges faced by governments in assisting their citizens in crisis situations, particularly in regions with increased military activity and potential threats from drone technologies.
