The new edition of the Participatory Budget in Brazil will allocate R$ 80 million to improve public services in five cities of Piauí, with community proposals being solicited from associations and organizations.

The fourth edition of the Participatory Digital Budget (OPA) for 2026-2027 is set to be launched this Tuesday at the Palácio de Karnak in Teresina, Brazil. This initiative, spearheaded by the Government of Piauí, aims to allow citizens to propose and prioritize the allocation of public resources, with a total investment of R$ 80 million designated for this purpose. The government emphasizes that this process encourages community dialogue and collaboration in the management of local projects, enhancing public governance.

According to Washington Bonfim, the Secretary of Planning for Piauí, the participatory budget initiative fosters continual engagement between community entities and state management. The aim is not only to listen to the needs of local communities but also to ensure that their proposals translate into tangible projects that improve their living conditions. The government sees this fourth edition as a critical opportunity to further expand the breadth of community participation and enhance the outcomes delivered to the public.

Organizations and associations interested in participating can register and submit their proposals from March 3 to March 20 on the OPA Portal. To qualify, these entities must meet specific criteria outlined in the edital, including being registered with valid CNPJ documentation. This participatory budget process reflects a broader commitment to democratize governance and empower local citizens to take an active role in the development of their communities, promising significant impacts on local infrastructure and services in the coming years.
