The Lithuanian Military Academy has published a national security textbook for 11th and 12th graders
The Lithuanian Military Academy has released a two-part textbook on national security fundamentals aimed at high school students, covering various aspects including security threats and the role of citizens in ensuring state security.
The Lithuanian Military Academy (KAM) has launched a new educational resource focused on national security designed for students in the 11th and 12th grades. This two-part textbook outlines fundamental concepts of national security and defense, emphasizing the importance of understanding both domestic and global threats that Lithuania and the world face. It provides insights into the differences between foreign and defense policies of democratic and authoritarian regimes, ensuring students are well-aware of the complexities surrounding national safety.
Furthermore, the publication discusses modern types of warfare, the characteristics of hybrid warfare, and the impact media can have on society's perception of security issues. The textbook also examines society's readiness for crises and emergencies, raising topics such as cybersecurity, information security, civic resistance foundations, and the crucial roles citizens play in reinforcing the state's security. By presenting such diverse themes, the textbook aims to equip young citizens with the knowledge they need to recognize threats and actively participate in maintaining their country's safety.
The KAM emphasizes that this publication is not only informative but also educational in its intent to cultivate responsible, critically thinking citizens who understand the significance of collective responsibility for state security. It elaborates on Lithuania's national security and universal defense systems, legal regimes, key security documents, and the structure and functions of Lithuania's armed forces, both in peacetime and wartime. This initiative reflects the importance placed on education in fostering a secure and informed society, particularly in an era where national and global security threats are increasingly complex and multifaceted.
