A New Citizen Education Textbook Presented
A new two-part textbook on civil education covering national security and defense fundamentals was introduced in Lithuania.
A new educational resource, presented recently in Lithuania, focuses on the fundamentals of national security and defense. This two-part textbook explains the concept of national security and reviews the threats facing both Lithuania and the world. It analyzes the differences between the foreign and defense policies of democratic and authoritarian states and discusses modern types of warfare, especially highlighting the nuances of hybrid warfare and the impact of media on society.
Moreover, the textbook addresses society's preparedness for crises and emergencies, focusing on cybersecurity and information security concerns. It emphasizes the fundamentals of civil resistance and the role of citizens in ensuring national security. Detailed sections are included on Lithuania's national security and comprehensive defense system, legal regimes, essential security documents, and the structure and functions of the Lithuanian Armed Forces during both peace and wartime.
The aim of this textbook is to cultivate mature, critically thinking citizens who can recognize threats and take responsibility for the security of their state. Given the context of hybrid, informational, and cyber attacks, particularly from Russia, such educational tools are vital for fostering informed and proactive civic engagement in safeguarding national security in Lithuania.
