Arla is missing a lot of green milk boxes - will donate money to get them back
Arla Denmark is launching a campaign to encourage the return of its green milk boxes by donating five kroner to a foundation for each box returned.
Arla Denmark has announced a campaign to encourage the return of its iconic green milk boxes, which are essential for its operations yet frequently go missing. Each year, the company produces 270,000 new boxes to replace those that are lost, resulting in an unnecessary carbon footprint of approximately 106 tons of CO2 annually due to the production of these boxes. To combat this environmental impact, Arla will donate five kroner to the Arla Foundation, an organization focused on educating children and youth about nutrition, for every milk box returned throughout 2026.
The green milk boxes are designed to last for 20 years, making their frequent replacement detrimental to climate efforts. Arla not only aims to retrieve these boxes but also to raise awareness about their environmental commitment through this initiative. Consumers can return the boxes to local supermarkets or recycling centers, contributing to sustainability and the reduction of waste. Arla hopes to remind the public that while the milk boxes are creatively reused as building blocks in playgrounds, they are not certified as safe toys.
This campaign highlights the intersection of corporate responsibility and community engagement, as Arla seeks to involve the public in environmental stewardship while supporting youth education. The initiative underscores the importance of recycling and proper disposal of consumer goods in nurturing a greener future, aligning with broader sustainability goals set by both the company and society.
