Ceará has the least violent month in history, says the Secretary of Security

February marked the least violent month in Ceará's history, with a 31.6% reduction in homicides and related crimes compared to the same month the previous year.

According to the Secretary of Public Security and Social Defense of Ceará, February has recorded the lowest number of violent deaths in its historical series since 2009, with a significant decrease of 31.6% in homicides, feminicides, and other violent crimes. The state witnessed 141 deaths this February, a marked decrease from 206 in February 2025, indicating a positive trend in the fight against violence in the state.

The reported decline in violence, which encompasses intentional lethal violent crimes (CVLIs), reflects the effectiveness of strategic actions implemented by law enforcement, particularly the combination of proactive policing and investigative measures. According to officials, these strategies have been instrumental in achieving such a notable decrease in criminal activities throughout the month.

Despite this noteworthy achievement, the ongoing challenges of organized crime and faction wars continue to pose significant obstacles for the security forces in Ceará. As the region grapples with these threats, authorities remain vigilant in their efforts to maintain and further improve public safety, thereby ensuring that this month's positive statistics can lead to sustainable change in crime rates across the state.
