Unemployment in Ceará is the lowest ever recorded

Ceará ended 2025 with the lowest unemployment rate since 2014, reaching 5% by the end of the year.

Ceará has concluded the year 2025 with a historic low unemployment rate of 5%, the lowest since the beginning of the data series in 2014. This statistic was released on the 20th of January by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), reflecting a significant improvement in the state’s labor market compared to previous years. The data indicates that Ceará has the lowest unemployment rate among the northeastern states and is just slightly below the national average, which stood at 5.1% for the same period.

In terms of occupied population, Ceará saw a notable increase, reaching 3.756 million persons employed by the end of 2025. This marks an increase of 119,000 workers compared to the previous year's fourth quarter, indicating a robust growth in job creation. The employment rate within the state also improved, rising to 49.5%, which surpasses the figures registered in the fourth quarter of 2024. Such advancements suggest a recovery and expansion in the local job market, particularly driven by formal employment in the private sector.

The data also highlighted a significant rise in the number of formally employed individuals, which surged from 961,000 to 1.035 million, demonstrating an increase of 74,000 workers. Additionally, the average monthly earnings showed an upward trend, reflecting better job quality and economic conditions for the workforce in Ceará. These developments are crucial for the state's economy and indicate a positive trajectory, suggesting that policies aimed at stimulating job growth in the region are bearing fruit.
