Almost 300 men are arrested for crimes of violence against women in Ceará
The police arrested 291 men suspected of crimes related to violence against women in over 70 municipalities in Ceará, with the operation coinciding with International Women's Day.
The police in Ceará announced the arrest of 291 men for various crimes against women across more than 70 municipalities. These arrests took place between February 19 and March 8, coinciding with International Women's Day. Over the weekend alone, a total of 61 arrests were made as part of a targeted operation to combat violence against women in the state.
According to the police's operational planning coordinator, Delegate Harley Filho, the arrested individuals are being investigated for a range of serious offenses including sexual crimes, those in violation of the Maria da Penha Law, completed and attempted femicide, threats, stalking, and disregard for protective measures. This large-scale operation highlights the ongoing issue of violence against women in Brazil, particularly in its northeastern states.
The law enforcement strategy was built upon three main components: preventive policing by the Military Police, educational campaigns, and investigative actions to solve and clarify reported cases. This comprehensive approach aims to address both immediate threats to women's safety and the broader issues surrounding gender-based violence, contributing to the ongoing efforts to promote women's rights and protection in Brazil.
