Itinerant Public Ministry serves riverside communities in Northern MG
The Itinerant Public Ministry of Minas Gerais will provide services to riverside communities along the São Francisco River from March 2 to 13.
From March 2 to 13, the Itinerant Public Ministry of Minas Gerais (MPMG) will navigate the São Francisco River on the vessel Opará to serve riverside communities across six municipalities in Northern Minas Gerais. This initiative is part of a program managed by the Center for Operational Support for Community Support, Inclusion, and Social Mobilization (CAO-Cimos) and aims to enhance legal and civic access for isolated populations along the river.
The project reflects a concerted effort to provide essential legal services to historically marginalized groups who often lack direct access to justice. The collaboration with the Foundation for the Development of Higher Education in Northern Minas (Fadenor), which is responsible for the boat, underscores the importance of inter-institutional cooperation in effectively reaching these communities. By enabling mobile legal assistance, the MPMG seeks to promote citizenship rights and the effective functioning of the justice system in these areas.
Promoter of Justice Paulo Cés, the coordinator of CAO-Cimos, emphasized the initiative's role in expanding the territorial reach of the Public Ministry. The program not only stands as a model for future inter-institutional efforts but also addresses the unique needs of riverside populations, providing them with a platform to access necessary services that are otherwise difficult to obtain. This project is indicative of a broader trend towards inclusive governance and equal access to justice throughout Brazil.
