Aurinkomatkat repatriates Finns from the United Arab Emirates – compensation to be considered on a case-by-case basis
Aurinkomatkat is repatriating about a hundred Finnish travelers from the United Arab Emirates, with transportation involving a lengthy land journey through Oman.
Aurinkomatkat, a Finnish travel company, is in the process of repatriating around a hundred Finnish citizens who were vacationing in the United Arab Emirates. According to reports, these travelers are being transported by bus to Oman and will continue their journey home via Thailand, with the last of them expected to arrive in Finland by March 5. The transportation through Oman involves significant logistical challenges, including customs procedures that can prolong the journey significantly.
Suvi Aaltonen, the communications manager for Aurinkomatkat, stated that the priority is now on ensuring the safe return of these travelers. The situation remains fluid, as some individuals are still in Oman while others are already en route to Thailand. Concerns about health and safety during this extended journey are likely to be addressed by the travel company as they seek to manage the logistics of repatriating citizens during a complex situation.
As for compensation, Aaltonen noted that the company has not yet determined the specific details but indicated that it would be evaluated on a case-by-case basis. The consideration will likely take into account the length of stay in the destination and the planned duration of travel. This approach suggests that the company is recognizing the varied circumstances of their customers, though it also highlights the challenges faced by the travel industry during unexpected disruptions.
