NKVC: Considering relocating Lithuanians in the UAE to neighboring states for them to be able to fly out
The NKVC is exploring options to relocate Lithuanians in the UAE to neighboring countries due to travel restrictions caused by ongoing conflict in the region.
The National Crisis Management Center of Lithuania (NKVC) is currently assessing the possibility of relocating Lithuanian citizens from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to neighboring countries where flight restrictions are less severe. This statement was made by V.Vitkauskas during a press briefing, where he noted that there are approximately 2,000 Lithuanian citizens in the region, with over 1,000 of them residing in the UAE. The suggestion to move to Oman or Saudi Arabia highlights the need for safe transit options amidst ongoing regional tensions.
V.Vitkauskas also emphasized the importance of caution and advised against unnecessary movements within the affected countries to avoid potential risks, such as accidental attacks or debris falling on buildings. He indicated that the NKVC is closely monitoring the local government's directives and is considering various options for evacuation, depending on the development of the situation in the region. With ongoing attacks from Iran, the NKVC believes that time is on their side, allowing them to devise a careful strategy for the safe relocation of their citizens.
If circumstances deteriorate to a point that evacuation via commercial flights becomes impossible, the NKVC is committed to doing everything possible to facilitate the departure of its nationals. The ongoing assessment reflects the Lithuanian governmentβs proactive stance in ensuring the safety and well-being of its citizens in crisis situations abroad, reaffirming its responsibility to protect its citizens regardless of the location, particularly in areas of conflict.
