Fraud of 2.1 million in the name of New Zealand work visa, youth trapped by Instagram advertisement
A 27-year-old man from Bharuch, Gujarat, was defrauded of 2.1 million rupees under the pretense of securing a job in New Zealand after responding to an Instagram advertisement.
In Bharuch, Gujarat, a significant fraud occurred involving a 27-year-old man who was lured by a fake job advertisement on Instagram claiming a secure position in New Zealand. Entrusted with promises that merely purchasing a ticket would ensure his job, the victim was swindled into transferring large sums of money to the fraudsters. Ultimately, he ended up losing 2.1 million rupees before realizing that the entire scheme was a scam, prompting him to report the matter to the police.
The investigation revealed that four individuals from Vadodara are allegedly involved in this fraud, including a female accomplice. The fraudsters reportedly collected 2.5 million rupees from the victim, from which only 400,000 rupees were returned, leaving a hefty sum of 2.1 million rupees unreturned. This breach of trust not only highlights the victim's caution in online transactions but also bears the implication of greater scrutiny needed in the burgeoning realm of online job advertisements, especially on social media platforms.
Following the victim's complaint filed at the Manjalpur Police Station, authorities have begun their investigation to locate the accused.
