According to reports, Latvian border guards reported no illegal immigrants attempting to cross the border on Sunday, and Polish authorities reported likewise on Saturday. The last recorded attempt to illegally cross into Lithuania involved two migrants who were turned away on the previous Thursday. This year, Lithuania has denied entry to a total of 37 illegal migrants, a marked decrease compared to the incidents reported in previous years.

In 2022, more than 1,600 attempts were made to enter Lithuania illegally from Belarus, and in 2021, this number reached 1,002. The surge in illegal migration from Belarus to Eastern EU countries began in 2021, which Western nations blame on the Belarusian regime’s actions to facilitate these crossings. This context highlights a significant concern for the EU regarding border security and the management of migration in the region.

Since the onset of the migration crisis instigated by Belarus, Lithuanian authorities have barred over 24,600 illegal migrants from entering the country. The situation not only reflects the ongoing challenges faced by Lithuania and its neighbors but also underscores the broader geopolitical tensions between the EU and Belarus, particularly regarding migration control and human rights issues.
