Object Stolen from Osaka Police Station Found with Suspect Reporting for Different Incident
An object that was stolen from a police vehicle at the Osaka prefectural police station has been recovered by authorities, following the suspect's report in a separate incident.
In a development following the theft of a metallic object from a police vehicle in Osaka’s Izumisano City, authorities have reported the recovery of the stolen item. The Osaka Prefectural Police announced the recovery on the 2nd of February, revealing that a man in his twenties presented the object at the police station accompanied by his lawyer. The police noted that the recovered object emanates a smell similar to marijuana, leading them to speculate that it may have been used in the storage or production of cannabis-related substances.
The man, who has not been employed, is one of two suspects arrested previously for a separate robbery resulting in injury that took place in mid-February. The Osaka police identified the suspects, including 26-year-old Akiyasu Ueshaku, and 24-year-old Shibuki Koyanagi, who allegedly attacked a man in his twenties in connection with a dispute over borrowed money, stealing items reportedly worth approximately 37,000 yen. Following their arrest, a cannabis-related plant fragment was found in the police vehicle, from which the metallic object had been stolen between February 19 and 20.
Surveillance footage from the police station captured an individual entering the premises, with several others escaping on multiple motorcycles after the theft. Koyanagi admitted his involvement in the police station break-in and theft, but investigators are exploring the potential involvement of additional accomplices in the case. The police are pursuing further inquiries into the break-in and theft as well as the related robbery case.
