The Osaka Prefectural Police Station has another theft incident: a metallic object stored in a vehicle as evidence
The Osaka Prefectural Police have reported a theft of an item from a police evidence vehicle parked at the Izumisano Police Station.
The Osaka Prefectural Police announced on the 20th that a metallic object had been stolen from a vehicle used as evidence, which was parked in the public parking area of the Izumisano Police Station. This object was reportedly around 50 centimeters long and tubular in shape, although it was deemed not to be evidence related to any case. The theft is believed to have occurred between the afternoon of the 19th and the morning of the 20th, with no signs of forced entry at the time of the discovery. The vehicle, previously linked to a robbery incident, was secured with a lock and covered, yet the metallic object reportedly vanished overnight.
This incident has raised heightened concerns within the Osaka Prefectural Police regarding the security of evidence and the management of police property. Following the theft, police officials indicated they suspect that someone with a key may have illegally accessed the parking area, prompting an internal investigation. The police department also reiterated its commitment to improving security protocols to prevent such incidents from occurring in the future.
Similar thefts have previously occurred, such as in November 2022 when items were stolen from another police station's evidence vehicles. In that incident, the Osaka police detained two individuals for their involvement in the theft. The department has since increased surveillance and patrolling efforts to safeguard evidence and enhance the protection of its facilities and equipment.
