A luxury car stored as evidence at the Mito Police Station in Ibaraki Prefecture was stolen but was found nine hours later.
The Ibaraki Prefectural Police reported that a luxury vehicle, which had been stored as evidence in the parking lot of Mito police station, was stolen on the night of the 25th. The car had previously been stolen from a company's premises in Mito City on the 6th of this month and was found on the 22nd with its license plates swapped. Following the seizure, it was covered with a blue tarp and secured with wheel chocks in an outdoor parking area of the station. On the evening of the 25th, around 9:50 PM, police officers witnessed the luxury vehicle being driven away from the police station parking lot. Investigation revealed that a broken wheel chock was left behind at the scene. In response, the Ibaraki Prefectural Police mobilized approximately 40 personnel to search for the vehicle, which was located at 6:50 AM the following morning in another parking lot in Mito. It was reported that the car had another set of license plates attached when found. Authorities have expressed their concern over this incident, describing it as something that "should not happen." They emphasize the need for a thorough investigation to apprehend the suspects involved and to improve management protocols for handling evidence and facilities at the police station to prevent such occurrences in the future.
