Kivikas After Changing Coach: The Season Has Been Difficult

Ann Marii Kivikas, who recently became the Estonian champion in the women's 60 meters, reflects on a challenging season following a coaching change.

The Estonian indoor athletics championships kicked off on Saturday, during which Ann Marii Kivikas claimed the title in the women's 60-meter event with a time of 7.35 seconds, narrowly defeating Õilme Võro. Kivikas expressed her satisfaction with the championship win despite the challenges she faced throughout the season. She emphasized the struggles linked to her recent coaching change, which had only lasted about four months, leading to a tough training period leading up to the championships.

Kivikas's victory time was slightly below her best times from the previous winter, indicating the impact of her recent coaching transition. She mentioned to ERR that she had set a personal threshold for satisfaction, stating that running a time around 7.35 or 7.36 seconds would make her completely happy considering the season's difficulties and the coaching change.

The men's 60-meter final was also competitive, with Henri Sai achieving his best performance in the last five years at 6.72 seconds, showcasing the high level of competition at the event. Sai outpaced his training partners Dmitri Petrogradov and Ats Kivimets, adding to the excitement of the championships, which highlighted both personal and collective achievements in Estonian athletics.
