Kivikas ends cooperation with coach: the season has been challenging
Ann Marii Kivikas expresses satisfaction with her performance despite a challenging season and the end of her coaching relationship.
Ann Marii Kivikas recently won the Estonian championship in the women's 60-meter sprint, clocking in at 7.35 seconds, which was just six hundredths of a second ahead of her competitor. Despite achieving this title, Kivikas admitted to ERR that the season had been difficult for her. She has dealt with the recent termination of her collaboration with a Swedish sprint coach after less than four months, affecting her preparation and training routine for the championship.
Kivikas reflected on the hurdles she had faced throughout the season, particularly emphasizing how changing coaches contributed to the challenges. She indicated that during tough times, achieving a time close to her target of 7.35-36 seconds was satisfying, especially considering her recent adjustments. This accomplishment highlights Kivikas’s resilience and ability to perform under pressure, even when the optimal training environment has been compromised.
The atmosphere at the championships was also competitive, as demonstrated by the men's finals where Henri Sai recorded his best run in five years at 6.72 seconds. Such performances showcased the high level of athleticism and competitiveness present in Estonian athletics, setting a positive tone for future events. Kivikas's story adds a personal narrative to the championships, celebrating her achievements while acknowledging the struggles that accompany the journey of competitive sports.
