First-Year Cadets of Oskars Kalpaks School Have Made a Solemn Promise
First-year cadets at Oskars Kalpaks School in Latvia have officially sworn an oath to serve their country as the school prepares to expand its military education offerings.
The Oskars Kalpaks Military Secondary School in Latvia has seen a consistent rise in demand for military education. As the only institution of its kind in the country providing secondary education with a military focus, it is set to expand its offerings with a new similar school launching in the Latgale region this September. The solemn promise given by the first-year cadets is a significant moment in their training, symbolizing their commitment to selflessness, defending their homeland, and faithfully serving Latvia.
This moment was marked by a historical awareness hike of approximately 10 kilometers, where future soldiers are engaged in various team-building activities. Tasks included practical skills such as lighting a fire, melting snow in a pot, and identifying hidden explosives. These activities are designed to foster teamwork and cooperation among the cadets, as they learn to rely on each other in high-stakes situations. The experience is intended to be both an educational exercise and a bonding opportunity, as they begin to develop a sense of camaraderie with their classmates.
Sergeant Major Dagnis Kjahja emphasized the importance of collaboration among future soldiers, noting them as a critical part of their initial training. The cadets are encouraged to understand the dynamics of working within teams they may not yet fully know or be accustomed to. This initial period is important for developing interpersonal skills necessary for military operations, ultimately aiming to prepare them for the responsibilities they will shoulder as defenders of their nation.
