CineSesc in Tocantins will host a free retrospective of Brazilian cinema in March, celebrating actress Zezé Motta's 60-year career.
CineSesc Tocantins is set to host a film retrospective titled 'Brasil,' taking place in Palmas, Gurupi, and Araguaína from March 5 to March 19. The event begins each evening at 7:30 PM and features free admission for attendees. This series of screenings honors the esteemed career of actress and singer Zezé Motta, showcasing a selection of films from prominent Brazilian filmmakers.
The first film to be screened is the classic 'Xica da Silva' (1976), which tells the story of a black woman who was enslaved in the Arraial do Tijuco, modern-day Diamantina, Minas Gerais. The narrative follows her social ascent after becoming the partner of a diamond contractor. Additionally, the retrospective will include the 1987 documentary 'Zezé Motta – La Femme Enchantée,' directed by French filmmaker Ariel de Bigault, further celebrating Motta's contribution to cinema.
The event not only marks a significant milestone in Zezé Motta's six decades in the arts but also highlights the richness of Brazilian cinema, inviting viewers to engage with culturally and historically significant works. This initiative by CineSesc demonstrates a commitment to honoring local talent while also providing accessible cultural experiences to the public, reinforcing the importance of film as a medium for artistic expression and education.
