What's currently relevant for young authors in the Baltic States? Anthology of prose and poetry from three countries published

A three-country anthology featuring prose and poetry from Baltic young authors has been published as part of a collaboration aimed at enhancing cultural exchange among the Baltic nations.

The project for the anthology began when Estonian artist Kristela Cimmera met with Lithuanian assistant director Dominik Matulionis, where they discussed the challenges of getting to know young authors from neighboring countries and understanding the cultural dynamics within the region. In response, they decided to organize a week-long winter school in Estonia in 2024 for young authors from the Baltic states to meet, share experiences, and create written works together. This initiative aims to foster connections and collaboration among emerging literary voices in the Baltic region.

The organizers also recognized a gap in awareness between the young authors of Latvia and Estonia, which led to a concerted effort to include voices from various publications to aid in author selection. Some Latvian periodicals provided lists of potential contributors, helping to broaden the scope of participation. This year marks the third edition of the project, with the organizers opening the application process to all interested young authors, thereby encouraging wider engagement and representation from across the Baltic states.

This anthology serves not only as a literary collection but also as a catalyst for cultural exchange and understanding among these countries. By bringing together young authors from different backgrounds, the initiative aims to cultivate a more interconnected artistic community that can support and learn from one another, thereby enriching the literary landscape of the region.
