The Most Creative Lithuanian Writers' Books of 2025 According to Literature Experts

A panel of literary experts in Lithuania has selected the top twelve most creative books by Lithuanian writers for 2025, highlighting a strong emphasis on poetry this year.

In February, as part of an annual tradition since 2003, a panel of literary experts in Lithuania convened to evaluate the fiction works released in the previous year. They produced a list of the most creative literary contributions of 2025. Notably, despite the publication of various interesting prose, the experts argue that 2025 can justifiably be named as a year dominated by poetry.

The past year has seen a notable emergence of strong, cohesive poetry collections that reflect contemporary experiences and human emotions, such as vulnerability, mourning, longing, and temporality. Works like Marius Burokas' 'Seismografas', Giedrė Kazlauskaitė's 'Marialė', and Gintaras Grajauskas' 'Vandens skonis' showcase unique reflections on these themes. Furthermore, Mindaugas Kvietkauskas' collection 'Gruntiniai vandenys' creatively blends original poetry with translations, essays, and photographs, while Sara Poisson's 'Niekas, pasiruošęs patriukšmauti' offers an innovative anthropological approach to contemporary life.

The committee recognized that the selected works not only exhibit literary creativity but also engage with significant cultural and existential themes, showcasing the richness and depth of Lithuanian literature. Such recognitions play a vital role in promoting Lithuanian authors on both a national and international scale, encouraging a renewed interest in local literary voices among readers and critics alike.
