Attica Region: New seizures of 5.6 tons of unsuitable food

Recent health inspections in Attica have led to the seizure of 5.6 tons of unsuitable food during a thorough check conducted over Carnival season.

The Attica region has intensified health inspections in the market to protect consumers and ensure product quality under the direction of regional governor Nikos Hardalias. Between February 6 and 23 during the Carnival period, health officials conducted a total of 1,108 checks across various retail outlets, markets, food establishment facilities, and businesses. These inspections resulted in the seizure of 13 types of unsuitable food totaling 5,671 kilograms.

Among the checks, there were 450 export inspections, 352 focused on animal products, and 255 on plant-based foods. Additionally, 51 inspections were carried out in animal food facilities and 16 in slaughterhouses. The seizures included 4,851 kilograms of meat and meat derivatives, as well as 820 kilograms of fish products. Health inspectors also issued 101 compliance recommendations to the food establishments inspected.

Governor Hardalias emphasized the importance of these inspections, stating, "The seizure of 5.6 tons of unsuitable food by the sanitary inspection teams in the Attica Region showcases our commitment to consumer safety and product quality. We will continue to ensure that our markets are safe for all consumers." This ongoing initiative underscores the rigorous efforts undertaken by the local government to uphold food safety standards in the region.
