Traffic in Attica: 9 arrests, hundreds of fines for alcohol – 41,000 checks in four days

A special traffic operation in the Attica region resulted in 9 arrests and hundreds of fines for alcohol-related offenses over four days.

A significant traffic enforcement operation was conducted throughout the Attica region from early Thursday until this morning, aimed at preventing drunk driving. The initiative was led by the Attica Traffic Police, involving specialized teams focused on traffic accident prevention and law enforcement. During this operation, a remarkable 41,689 checks were carried out, leading to the identification of 282 violations related to alcohol consumption while driving.

Among the offenses recorded, nine drivers were arrested for exceeding a blood alcohol concentration of 0.60 mg/l, highlighting the seriousness of the issue. Additionally, officers from the Athens Traffic Subdivision noted 93 violations for speeding in residential areas where limits are set at 30 km/h. This operation underscores the proactive measures being taken by law enforcement to enhance road safety and reduce the risks associated with impaired driving.

The Greek police have indicated that such checks and operations will continue with sustained intensity, reflecting a commitment to tackling issues of impaired driving and speeding, both critical factors in road safety.
