Did you know? Fair in RS promotes tasting of grapes and showcases almost 200 varieties of the fruit
A grape fair in Caxias do Sul, Brazil, is showcasing nearly 200 varieties of grapes and offering free guided tastings until March 8.
The grape fair, part of the National Grape Festival, is taking place in Caxias do Sul, Rio Grande do Sul, featuring around 190 different grape varieties. Attendees have the opportunity to participate in guided tastings, experiencing the unique flavors and characteristics of the showcased grapes. This year's event is notable for its introduction of direct grape tastings, a first for the festival.
Leading the tastings is Thompsson Didoné, an enologist from Emater, who explains the various grape characteristics and provides insights into their cultivation. Six grape varieties are highlighted in the tastings, including Niágara Rosada, Moscato de Alexandria, and several others developed by Embrapa. Didoné points out that Niágara Rosada is the most widely planted grape in the region, followed by the Italia variety and its mutations. This detail emphasizes the importance of local grape varieties in the region's agricultural identity.
As visitors indulge in these tastings, they not only enjoy the flavors but also gain knowledge about viticulture and regional grape varieties. The event serves to promote local agriculture and enhance the community's appreciation for the grape cultivation industry, which is a significant part of Rio Grande do Sul's cultural heritage. With the fair continuing until March 8, attendees have ample opportunity to explore the diverse offerings of this vibrant agricultural showcase.
