'Saguzaço' is prepared with 300 liters of wine during the Grape Festival in Caxias do Sul
During the Grape Festival in Caxias do Sul, a special dessert called 'Saguzaço' is being prepared using 300 liters of wine, celebrating the region's rich tradition and impact of grape cultivation.
The Festa Nacional da Uva, celebrated in Serra Gaúcha, honors the grape, which is vital for many families and the base for various wine products. This year's event featured a giant version of a traditional dessert called 'Saguzaço,' made in an enormous pot, following a dream first proposed in 2018 by a former festival president. This year's operation, led by volunteers, has grown to one of the largest attractions of the festival.
The Saguzaço, a beloved dessert among Italian descendants in the region, showcases the community's culinary heritage. Typically made in homes, at the festival, it is prepared in large quantities—about one ton to be served, demonstrating the festival's scope and celebration of local traditions. The preparation involved significant quantities of ingredients, including 300 liters of red wine, 50 kilograms of sagu, and 80 kilograms of sugar, indicating the scale of the effort behind this unique treat.
The Grape Festival represents not just a cultural celebration but also a deep community involvement where locals come together to honor their heritage through food. The success of the Saguzaço could inspire future festivals and showcases the potential for local agricultural products to be transformed into larger community initiatives.
