Bird Flu Strikes Bihar, 4575 Chickens Killed, Patna Zoo Closed Until March 7
Bihar's government has confirmed an outbreak of bird flu, resulting in the death of 4575 chickens and the temporary closure of the Patna Zoo until March 7.
Bird flu (H5N1) has been confirmed in Bihar after reports of sudden deaths among crows and chickens in the P.C. Colony, Kankarbagh Zoo-sector Park, and the Patna High Court area. Following the confirmation, the state government issued advisories and declared a one-kilometer radius around the affected areas as infected. To curtail the spread of the virus, 4575 chickens were culled, along with the destruction of 9662 eggs and 530 kilos of feed. The administration is also conducting thorough spraying of disinfectants in the impacted areas and has urged residents to remain vigilant and avoid spreading misinformation.
After the unusual deaths of the birds, samples were sent to a laboratory in Bhopal for testing. The results confirming bird flu prompted the Patna Zoo administration to initiate special monitoring measures, including sending samples of water, soil, and blood to the Bhopal lab for further analysis. In response to the confirmed cases, the zoo will remain closed until March 7 to prevent potential infections and ensure the safety of the remaining birds.
As concerns grow due to the alarming situation, authorities are monitoring the situation closely and implementing stringent public health measures. The death of several birds has caused panic among residents, leading to heightened awareness and precautionary measures as the government works to manage the outbreak and prevent further spread.
