Bird flu continues to advance in the country: a new case detected in a poultry establishment in Buenos Aires
A new case of highly pathogenic avian influenza was detected in a poultry establishment in Buenos Aires, prompting health authorities to implement containment measures.
The National Service of Sanity and Quality Agroalimentaria (SENASA) in Argentina reported a new case of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) H5 detected in a poultry farm located in BolΓvar, Buenos Aires Province. This detection follows a series of analyses conducted in their National Laboratory, highlighting ongoing concerns regarding the spread of avian flu in the region.
In response to the confirmed outbreak, SENASA quickly activated contingencies outlined in their emergency response plan, designating a Sanitary Control Zone (ZCS) around the affected establishment. This zone comprises a 3-kilometer radius around the site, with an additional surveillance zone extending up to 7 kilometers, emphasizing heightened containment efforts, biosecurity protocols, and restrictions on movement within the areas affected to prevent further spread of the disease.
As part of the effort to contain the outbreak and limit its transmission, SENASA officials will oversee the sanitary depopulation of the affected establishment. This proactive step is critical in managing animal health within the region while also monitoring nearby production units for potential connections and epidemiological links to the outbreak, indicating the serious implications this disease poses to the poultry industry and public health in Argentina.
