They say that the sudden warming will not affect the flood, but they are preparing for the worst
Weather forecasts predict a sudden rise in temperature in Kedainiai, but authorities are still preparing for potential flooding risks.
This Saturday, significant temperature increases are expected in Kedainiai, with thermometers projected to reach up to 7 degrees Celsius. However, temperatures will cool down again next week, with daily highs expected to only range from 1 to 3 degrees Celsius, while nighttime temperatures may dip slightly below freezing. As the hydrometeorological service reports, the water levels of the Nevėžis River are currently at a normal level of 70.9 cm above the measuring station's zero point, suggesting that flooding risks remain controllable at this time.
Experts note that while the prospect of flooding might not be as severe as anticipated due to the current water levels, caution is still advised. In a similar situation in the Babtai area, the water level is measured at 214.3 cm, which is considered normal and somewhat lower than usual. Comparatively, the water level reached 283 cm just a month prior, highlighting a significant reduction that bodes well for the immediate future. Despite this positive assessment, local authorities are preparing for the possibility of worse conditions if the weather takes an unexpected turn.
Overall, while the weather conditions seem to alleviate immediate fears of flooding, officials remain vigilant and committed to readiness should severe weather occur. The continued monitoring of river levels and readiness for emergency responses underscore the community's proactive approach to managing potential natural disasters during this unpredictable weather season.
