Latest news on flood possibility: better than expected
Meteorologists in Kaunas report favorable weather conditions that are expected to last for about a week, reducing the risk of flooding.
In a recent briefing to journalists in Kaunas, V. Vitkauskas expressed optimism regarding potential flooding conditions. He highlighted that the current weather patterns, characterized by alternating warm and cold cycles, are expected to persist for about a week. This prolonged cycle may help in managing the snow and ice melt, mitigating the risk of flooding in the regions affected.
Vitkauskas explained that the temperature fluctuations will aid in preventing rapid melting of ice and snow, which are currently present in the fields and on the ground. Additionally, he noted that the frost depth is not substantial, allowing water to permeate into the ground rather than flowing into rivers, which further decreases the likelihood of flood risks during this season.
He also mentioned that current river levels are actually lower than the usual averages for this time of year, which is another positive indication regarding the flood situation. With accurate forecasts obtained from meteorologists for the week ahead, the findings appear reassuring for regions that are typically susceptible to flooding during this period.
