After less than a year in office, Māris Dzelme, the interim director of "European Railway Lines," the implementer of "Rail Baltica" in Latvia, has resigned
Māris Dzelme has resigned as the interim director of the European Railway Lines after nearly a year, citing the need for stable leadership following a crisis management phase.
Māris Dzelme, appointed as the interim director of European Railway Lines (EDzL) nearly a year ago, announced his resignation to allow for the transition to a permanent board. Dzelme emphasized that his leadership was critical during a crisis period where stabilizing the company's governance and processes was paramount. He believes that EDzL is now ready for a long-term, empowered board to oversee its future operations and development needs.
In his statement, Dzelme mentioned that the crisis management phase has concluded, meaning that the organization now requires stable leadership focused on strategic growth. The new director, Jānis Naglis, is expected to bring valuable financial management experience and uphold the clear direction set during Dzelme's tenure, which was characterized by clear targets and cooperative efforts crucial for the advancement of the Rail Baltica project.
With the transition in leadership, Naglis affirmed that the groundwork laid by Dzelme equipped the organization for sustained development. The focus will now shift towards ensuring the continuity of operations and effectively navigating the next stages of the project, which remains a priority for regional transport connectivity and economic collaboration in the Baltic region.
