ABC in Siilinjärvi to be demolished

The ABC convenience store in Siilinjärvi is set to be demolished, with plans for a new S-market and additional services to be constructed in its place.

The ABC convenience store located in Siilinjärvi, Finland, is slated for demolition due to reaching the end of its operational lifespan, as stated by Jouni Ruotsalainen, the industry director of regional cooperative Peeässä. The decision has led to the initiation of negotiations for the 19 employees at ABC Siilinjärvi, with the aim of finding them new positions within the cooperative. Furthermore, the new S-market facility will include a Hesburger restaurant, two car washes, a fuel station, and charging points for electric vehicles.

Construction of the new S-market is expected to begin in the summer, with the current ABC store operating until the end of March. The project represents an investment of €10.3 million and is designed to provide a larger retail space than the existing ABC store. Upon completion, expected in March 2027, the new facility will offer around 30 job opportunities, thus contributing positively to the local economy and employment.

This development reflects ongoing changes in the retail landscape in Finland, with a focus on modernizing services to meet contemporary consumer demands. As traditional gasoline stations evolve into multi-faceted service hubs, the transition from ABC to S-market is indicative of broader trends in the region’s economic growth and consumer convenience initiatives.
