Song Eon-seok, after the failure of Cheon Yeong-sik's nomination by 8 votes, said, 'Some party members were unable to participate in the vote, I apologize'
Song Eon-seok, the floor leader of the People Power Party, criticized the Democratic Party for disrupting bipartisan agreement after Cheon Yeong-sik's nomination to the Broadcast, Media, and Communications Committee failed by eight votes in the National Assembly, while also apologizing for the low participation of his party's members.
Song Eon-seok, the floor leader of the People Power Party, expressed criticism towards the Democratic Party for allegedly breaking a bipartisan agreement after the nomination of Cheon Yeong-sik to the Broadcast, Media, and Communications Committee was rejected by eight votes in the National Assembly. The voting results, which showed 116 votes in favor, 124 against, and 9 abstentions, led to a significant response from the opposition party. They pointed out that nearly 30 members of the ruling party did not participate in the vote, implying that the low turnout was a critical factor in the failure of the nomination.
In light of this political setback, Song addressed the underwhelming participation of his own party members, acknowledging the impact it had on the vote outcome. He expressed regret over the situation and emphasized his responsibility as a floor leader. Song promised to improve attendance management among party members and reflected on his role, stating that he would implement stricter measures to ensure full participation in future votes. His apology highlights the internal challenges his party faces in maintaining cohesion and discipline.
Additionally, Song discussed legislative matters concerning the administrative integration of Daegu and Gyeongbuk, urging the Democratic Party to hold a prompt session of the Legislative Judiciary Committee to process relevant legislation, aligning with the desires of the local MPs. He cautioned that if the Democratic Party is genuinely interested in regional balanced development, they need to stop divisive tactics and expedite the passage of necessary laws, while expressing concerns about the proposed administrative integration of Daejeon and Chungnam due to local objections from councils and mayors.
